Ed Bacon to Preach at Islamic Center of Southern California

Sunday, April 17

“Interfaith Peacemaking in a Time of Hate” is the title of the sermon Ed Bacon will preach at the Islamic Center of Southern California at noon on Sunday, April 17. “A significant part of my continuing education in my twenty-one years as Rector of All Saints Church has come from my friendship with Muslim sages who taught me about Islam as a religion of justice and peace.  I am truly a better Christian and a better human being because of what I have learned from these Islamic scholars.”

Bacon is retiring after twenty-one years as rector of All Saints Church in Pasadena and Sunday’s sermon at the Islamic Center will be one of his final local public appearances. “I truly believe that to be religious in the 21st century is to be interreligious,” he said. “And so  I am deeply honored by this invitation to preach. The message I have to share is what I have learned about interfaith living in an environment where hate and fear are a billion dollar industry. Too often that fear expresses itself in a hate-oriented “clash of civilization” mentality – and interfaith peacemaking is a much needed antidote to that toxic and destructive narrative.”

The Islamic Center is located at 434 S. Vermont Ave. Los Angeles 90020. The service begins at 12:00 noon and all are welcome.
