Advent Meditation: December 16

What is your favorite word? Mine is “rejoice!”

I am full of rejoicing today — my birthday — which I share with Ludwig van Beethoven.

There was a time when I resented the fact that most of my friends could have their friends to a party at one of the two amusement parks in Denver, and I had to factor the possibility of a serious snowstorm into my plans. Over the years I have come to terms with the fact that the day of my birth is nine days before Christmas and that these two big occasions are closer than I would have liked them to be.

In my maturing years, however, I have come to see all the festive decorations as part of my celebration. Crank up my favorite hymn #376, set to Beethoven’s , and let us rejoice away!!!
