PASADENA HOMELESS COUNT: THEY COUNT, WILL YOU?
THE EVENING OF JANUARY 24 & MORNING OF JANUARY 25
The Office for Urban Initiatives at Fuller Theological Seminary, the Partnership to End Homelessness (the Continuum of Care in the City of Pasadena), and the City of Pasadena, are once again looking for individuals to volunteer for the 2017 City of Pasadena Count and Subpopulation Survey. Can we count on you?
Also called the Point in Time Count, Pasadena’s Homeless Count is a one night snapshot of sheltered and unsheltered persons experiencing homelessness. The participation of many volunteers has been crucial in helping us accomplish this mandate. Year after year, All Saints church has provided many of those volunteers — and we hope that you seriously consider assisting in 2017. This year our goal is a minimum of 140 volunteers.
Why do we count persons experiencing homelessness?
The U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) mandates that each jurisdiction that receives federal funding conduct a Homeless Count of unsheltered homeless persons every two years. The Pasadena Partnership to End Homelessness has chosen to conduct a count every year, which is strongly encouraged by HUD.
The Count and Survey are integral for tracking homelessness in Pasadena, which in turn informs grants submitted to the federal government for funding of local services. As mandated by HUD, Pasadena conducts this count each January, with the upcoming date being the evening of Tuesday January 24 and the morning of January 25, 2017.
How is it done?
- Counters will be sent out in teams of 2-3 in the late evening of January 24 (8PM – 10PM) and the early morning of January 25 (6AM – 8AM) the same teams will go out both in the evening and following morning.
- Each Counter is required to attend an orientation / training meeting.
- There will be a choice of two evening orientations which will take place prior to the Count. Wednesday January 18, or Thursday January 19 from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM.
If you would like to serve, you may register by visiting the Pasadena Partnership to End Homelessness website at www.pasadenapartnership.org.
Please help us pass the word! We are in need of many volunteers!
